Starting with the 2003-2004 season, the hit touring attraction "Apollo Amateur Night" will now be called "Showtime at the Apollo On Tour," enabling presenters to leverage the nationally recognized brand of the #1 syndicated television music and entertainment show! The world's original star-making talent showcase, Apollo Amateur Night is gearing up to celebrate its 70th anniversary in cities across the USA.

The original Apollo Amateur Night show, "where stars are born and legends are made," began in 1934 and remains a golden road to fame for undiscovered talent. Past winners include legendary artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughn, as well as some of today's hottest stars including Lauryn Hill, D'Angelo, Jahiem and Sisq of r&b; group Dru Hill.

The 2003-2004 Showtime at the Apollo on Tour incorporates many of the features that TV fans nationwide have come to know and love. In addition to the amateur segment, the new season's tour will include a separate segment of young "stars of tomorrow," the world-class Apollo house band, "Ray Chew and the Crew," an Apollo comedian host to keep the show moving with a lot of laughter and of course, the formidable Executioner to do the infamous audience's bidding! Showtime audiences are as legendary as the stars they help to create. It doesn't matter if they are cheering or booing, the crowds love the show and appreciate the tour venue for brining an American icon to their theater (town).

The 2002-2003 Apollo Amateur Night tour has been a resounding success in cities around the country. The auditions attract no less than 120 acts to each venue, with lines stretched around the block! A proven crowd-pleaser, the show has played to sell-out audiences in many markets, including Seattle, Berkeley, Dayton and Newark. The winner in each city is invited to perform at the world famous Apollo Theater and has the chance to win a spot on the nationally televised "Showtime at the Apollo," where they will be seen not only by millions of viewers, but by major scouts in the music industry. In fact, this television season's ('02-'03) "Top Dog" champion is the local winner from the Newark, N.J., tour competition.

"Showtime at the Apollo" is one of the most popular television shows nationwide, the #1 rated show in 70 percent of all markets for its time slot. Showtime at the Apollo On Tour is a fantastic gift to your local community: the chance for your local artists to compete for a shot at the big time.
